Anxiety about dental appointments is common. For many people, it only takes one negative experience to make them dread going to the dentist. Dr. Steven Brooksher practices gentle dentistry, and everyone on his team focuses on making you feel comfortable and relaxed. Many of our previously anxious patients now enjoy their visits with us.
Ways We Provide Gentle Dentistry
Our Office Environment
Our office environment is relaxing. Every staff member you come in contact with will warmly greet you and make you feel welcome. We all share the same goal of being attentive and ensuring that you’re comfortable during your entire visit with us.
Our Techniques
- Attentive – While dental instruments are in your mouth during treatment, it is difficult for you to speak, so we pay close attention—and respond—to your hand signals, body language, and facial expressions.
- Adaptable – We make adjustments to ensure you remain relaxed. If certain sights, sounds, or words increase your anxiety, let us know. We will make the effort to avoid or minimize them.
- Communicative – We explain what you can expect before, during, and after your dental visit. During dental treatment, we will let you know what’s happening and why.
- Pain free – We are very sensitive to the fact that fear of dental appointments is often related to the anticipation of pain. If an injection is required, a topical anesthetic will be used to numb the injection site and make it painless.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Despite our gentle approach, you may need additional help to relax, so we offer oral conscious sedation. It also decreases your sensitivity to pain. In advance of your appointment, you will take a small amount of commonly prescribed anti-anxiety medication.
You will still be conscious during dental treatment, but you will be so relaxed that you probably won’t remember what happened during your visit. We will ensure that a staff member remains with you throughout your visit with us. For more information, read our sedation dentistry page.
Our Patients’ Perspectives
The best testimony to the gentle dental care you can expect from us comes from our patients:

I’ve had fear of the dentist all my life and finally got the courage to visit Dr. Brooksher after receiving recommendations from so many coworkers. I can now say for myself that he is the best—hands down.” – Patricia Madison Anthony
